Winter: CHARM's Tapestry Program
Tapestry supports families referred to CHARM for support with a death or extended separation from a close family member. Through tailored care packages and supportive connection, delivered just before school and winter break, we provide families with children with resources to nurture confidence, positive coping skills, and well-being - at home and within the community.
Children and their guardians are provided with books in English & Spanish, creative expression activities, gift cards for each family member, new seasonal clothing, hygiene kits, and an invitation to attend CHARM's annual Camp Druzy for the entire family
- all at no cost to them.
Guardian's also receive supportive connection from a certified Community Health Worker who works to understand each family's unique needs and partners with guardians to begin addressing thir needs, prior to attending camp, through available resources.

Spring: The online Resilient Parenting for Bereaved Families (eRPBF) evidence-based program supports caregivers and children following the death of a parent. Surviving parents and caregivers are the most powerful resource for helping bereaved children to cope following the death of their parent. Through this 10-week program, caregivers of children who have experienced the death of a parent for any cause learn practical parenting and self-care tools, that have been proven to promote resilience for both children and caregivers for many years after. It is most helpful for those seeking to rebuild their family moving forward and to take good care of themselves while grieving. Parents/caregivers are eligible starting from 6 months post-loss.
How does it work?
The eRPBF Program is implemented online, in a warm and supportive group environment, supported by Ayla Ruben, one of our Camp Druzy Co-Directors and Certified eRPBF Coach. Training consists of 10 units, and each unit takes about 30 minutes. After each unit, you practice the tools at home. Participants meet weekly to support each other as they learn how to make the tools work well in their family.

Summer & Fall: Camp Druzy
Camp Druzy is our signature overnight summer camp, held at the beautiful Tubac Golf Resort & Spa, in support of families with children who are grieving the death or extended separation of a close family member. In the fall, campers reconvene for a day to integrate and celebrate their lessons from the first part of camp as part of our equine day, where families learn to groom and ride horses.
The mission of Camp Druzy is to empower grieving families with children to strengthen their resiliency and transform grief together in health-promoting ways. Camp Druzy participants report greater resiliency and overall well-being, and top satisfaction, after just three days - with some adults even scoring as "the best they have ever been"!
Camp Druzy offer strengths- and evidence-based, personalized activities for the entire family that harness the power of nature, and each camper's innate creativity, to improve resilience factors and overall well-being! Since 2020, Camp Druzy has served over 230 campers of all ages - all at NO COST to families! Read more about our history, the positive impact on children and adults, and view photos from camp on our Camp Druzy page.

Professional Development Testimonials:
"My staff absolutely loved the training. They were so motivated and inspired. One of my teachers felt that the break out groups gave her time to grieve the loss of in-person teaching. She felt that others understood her and stated that it made her feel so much better. With so many things taking place (...) and the year we had,
it was a perfect workshop for us. "
~Principal Bonillas, Mary Welty Elementary, NUSD #1
"This was the most heartfelt and rewarding workshop I have ever attended. Thank you so much. This has given me a TREMENDOUS drive and passion within me to try to change the world
and make the good/greatness come out of all of us.
Beyond words at this moment. Thank you."

The Nurtured Heart Approach® (NHA) is more than just a parenting model or behavior management strategy. It is a philosophy for creating healthy relationships and recognizing that everyone has inherent greatness. We are not merely applying NHA as an intervention; we are reflecting the greatness that is at the core of every child’s being. When we recognize the child’s strengths and focus on positive, everyday occurrences, rather than energizing negativity, we are creating an environment in which children can thrive. To receive one-on-one or group training in NHA from certified trainer Dr. Heidi Pottinger, CHARM Executive Director, contact us at info@charmaz.org to schedule your training.
Grief is the normal response to loss. And hard as it may seem to believe when we're in its throes, we typically can move forward while holding onto memories of our loved one.
